Ooh, Look

Ooh, Look What I Found This Week – 20 July

Thank you for the tremendous response to the first post of this series last week. It was a pleasant surprise and definitely made me do a happy dance because I surely didn’t expect so many of you to like it.

I’m back again with another list of wonderful things I’ve discovered over the past week and honestly I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys. So jumping right into it with my most favorite find of the week.

Adopt an Elephant

I saw this being posted by an Instagram friend as a birthday gift for her husband and looked it up to find out that you can adopt an elephant, giraffe or hippo for as much as $50 a year. Is it the best thing ever or what?! This was from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is one of Africa’s oldest wildlife charities.

Since it looked a little far fetched, I looked it up further and found that you can pretty much do the same even through local zoos like the Mysuru Zoo, Arignar Anna Zoo and through various forest departments within our country. You can choose which animal you’d like to adopt depending on how much you’d like to donate. Birds and reptiles being the least expensive and elephants and tigers, the most expensive.

I don’t know if this is common knowledge but it was completely new to me and something I’ll definitely be considering. You receive a personalized adoption certificate, free family passes etc. as a benefit in addition to the joy of adopting an animal, of course.

Gurupriya Atreya

Another highlight this week has been discovering Gurupriya on Instagram. What a phenomenal singer! I’ve been listening to her songs on loop since then.

I also learnt later that she is the one behind The Living Room Kutcheri about which I’ve heard about in the past but hadn’t checked. So obviously I went down that rabbit hole too. What a lovely concept – an intimate concert experience in a warm and an ambient space that is their home.

Into The Plants

Plant lovers unite – this one’s for us all. For as far as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to have a home full of plants. However with a kid that’s prone to allergies and an adult with year-long allergic rhinitis (it me) and the weather here in the UAE, I didn’t really make an effort to make this happen. But with the quarantine and everything I’ve been totally into gardening (I may or may not have have joined a dozen Facebook groups just for this) and have practically saved every seed and stalk that I can grow something from.

But I digress. So until I can give you all gardening tips like a pro (or learn enough to pretend to be one), I’d like you all to drool with me, over the plants and paintings on this feed.

What. A. Treat.

Something Otter-ly Cute

I’m a big fan of sea otters. Aren’t they just the cutest? Speaking of which, have you seen the sea otter emoji? Ugh, so bloody cute! So imagine just how elated I was when I discovered that I can watch them live at the click of a button?

Head to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s website and then to the Sea Otter Cam to get a live webcam view of them otters. Truly, otterly amazing!

You can also take a sea otter personality quiz to see which one of their sea otters you are like. I’m Abby, apparently! 😀

You can also watch them live here and on Vancouver Aquarium‘s website. The Aringnar Anna Zoo’s website has a live view of some of their animals as well.

Diastasis Friendly Exercises – Cheat Sheet

This week I also landed on a cheat sheet/reference list specially for ladies (and men) with Diastasis Recti (DR)/ab seperation. It has been hard following exercises from my regular channels as a lot of the usual stuff (burpees, planks, crunches etc.) are not DR friendly.

This cheat sheet by Jessica Joy has been really helping me come up with a good workout (that feels like I’ve actually worked out) and it has also made me less anxious about hurting my abs more while trying to get an exercise session in.

… And that, my friends, concludes this week’s list. I’ll be back with more next week. Until then, check these out while I get back to keeping my eyes peeled for anything fun and interesting that comes my way. Ta!

  1. Wow never heard of adopting animals from the zoo. Million thanks to you for bringing this out . I can’t wait to research further and adopt one. Most certainly the best news I’ve come across recent times.
